Wantage Churches Together
1. The Purpose of Wantage Churches Together is to promote fellowship, understanding and co-operation between the different Christian traditions in the town, and united action in witness, outreach and service to the community
2. Wantage Churches Together seeks to represent all the local churches and fellowships in the town and currently they are as follows;
- S. John Vianney Catholic Church
- Ss. Peter and Paul with Holy Trinity from the Church of England
- The Methodist Church
- Wantage Community Church
- The Community of S. Mary the Virgin
- Wantage Christian Fellowship
3. Wantage Churches Together strengthens the local Clergy and lay leaders who regularly meet to reflect theologically and explore the way forward in ecumenical dialogue and action.
4. Wantage Churches Together has appointed a Council for the practical outworking of its purpose. The Council shall be called 'Wantage Christian Council'.
5. The members of the Council shall be (ex-officio) the leader/clergy of each participating church/fellowship together with two representatives of each appointed by each appropriate body and other representatives as the Council may from time to time invite. The Council shall have due regard to existing ecumenical projects in the town. Appointing bodies are asked to give due regard to continuity.
6. The Officers of the Council shall be Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Press/Community Liaison Officer. The officers may be lay or ordained, and shall be appointed from among the members of the Council by nomination and ballot.
7. The Chair shall be elected to serve for a term of three years. Other officers must be re-elected annually.
8. The Council shall meet not less than on two occasions each year.
9. The Annual General Meeting shall be an open meeting and shall be held in September of each year, for the reception of audited statements of account and annual reports, the election of Chair and officers, the levy and collection of annual subscriptions, and other business as the Chair may permit.
10. The Council may appoint representatives to community groups as it deems appropriate and as opportunity arises.
11. The Council shall have the right to amend its Constitution at any time. Changes to the Constitution shall require thirty days' notice and the approval of 75% of members attending and voting.
