about wantage.com

wantage.com is a place on the web which aims to bring together information relevant to the residents of Wantage, Grove and the OX12 surrounding area. The service started in a low key manner in the mid 1990s and has, through suggestions and comments grown to a substantial website and portal. wantage.com does not aim to host the content, in fact in most cases it is the pointer to the relevant information which may be stored on many other websites. In some cases where we could not find the information anywhere else on the web, we have created the content ourselves.

wantage.com is owned by the Vale and Downland Museum Trust which is a registered charity. The Trust, apart from running the successful Vale and Downland Museum in the town, has an objectives to provide information about Wantage which is both of a historical but also current nature. wantage.com is the perfect medium for presenting both.

The site was created by Howard Hill (local web company - First Ideas) who continues to run and develop wantage.com on a voluntary basis.

Some of the features available on wantage.com include;

  • the online diary
  • a discussion forum
  • articles about Wantage
  • a news section
  • the Wantage Town Council web pages
  • a comprehensive index of local businesses, organisations and groups
  • links to other information sites
  • index of books about wantage
  • ...much more.

The site is continually evolving. If you feel that we have missed something which could be included either as content or a web link then please let us know and we will respond rapidly. After all this site is by the residents of Wantage, for the residents of Wantage and is not a commercial site trying to sell a particular product or service.

The site has been supported by the Wantage and Grove Joint Economic Forum (JEF) as well as Oxfordshire County Council and a number of local businesses and organisations.

If you would like to make any comments or suggestions, or just have a question about wantage.com then please use the feedback form or send an e-mail to editor@wantage.com.

WANTAGE.COM DIARY

The diary is designed to be a public resource where residents of Wantage can find out about events taking place, or originating in the town. The following terms and conditions of use apply to individuals and organisations updating the diary.

diary entries must be:

  • for events rather than ongoing activities or trades. Thus a concert, lecture, play etc are fine, but publishing the opening hours of a restaurant would not be appropriate.
  • for events available to the general public. Personal, private or closed events are not appropriate for a public diary.
  • for events taking place in and around the OX12 region unless special travel arrangements for residents of OX12 have been made. For instance, a theatre trip open to the public which starts with a coach pick up in Wantage.
  • free from language which could offend.

The wantage.com editors decision is final and binding in all cases. wantage.com reserves the right to remove any diary entries and to suspend submitter’s accounts. If you are in any doubt as to the suitability of an entry, please contact editor@wantage.com for guidance.
