National Women’s Register (NWR), Wantage Branch NWR is an organisation formed more than 40 years ago (it used to be called National Housewives' Register) to "enable lively-minded women to meet regularly to discuss non-domestic topics". Ruth Mahoney is the local organiser of the Wantage NWR Branch, which meets every 3 weeks on a weekday evening in members' homes. A new programme is compiled twice a year. Recent meetings have included discussions on Humanism, the "empty-nest" syndrome, Dragon Boat Racing, British regional foods, Room 101, India, with additional excursions to Kelmscott Manor, a guided walk around Oxford, and Buscot. Wilts & Berks Canal Amenity Group The East Vale Branch of the Wilts & Berks Canal Amenity Group (W&BCAG) is based in Wantage. W&BCAG is a non-profit making charity dedicated to the restoration of the Wilts & Berks and North Wilts Canals. These canals are the central section of the Wessex Waterways Network, linking the River Thames, the Kennet & Avon Canal and the Thames & Severn Canal. The Wantage Waterway web site is the site for the East Vale Branch and is linked to the main W&BCAG site and all other relevent sites as well as similar waterways sites.
