OLD CHURCH HOUSE, Priory Road (Gardens only)

Open: Saturday & Sunday 3pm – 5pm
A 17th Century town house reflecting evolving vernacular architecture. Very large garden
with mature trees, pergola,lawns, chalk stream etc.

BUTLER CENTRE (Former Wantage C of E Infants School), Church St

Open: Saturday and Sunday 3pm-5pm
Founded by Rev W J Butler for boys, girls and infants, architect H Woodyer. Of particular
interest are the listed ceiling paintings, dating from 1850, depicting scenes from the bible.

PARISH CHURCH OF SS PETER AND PAUL

Open, 3-5pm;Saturday and Sunday (subject to weddings and other ceremonies)
Parish church dating back to the 8th century which has undergone rebuilding over the
centuries, including a one bay extension by the Architect, William Butterfield

VALE AND DOWNLAND MUSEUM,CHURCH ST

Open:Saturday,10.30am-4.30pm.Free entrance to the museum.Also10.30-12.30 a free
family friendly space science day, with Scientists from Rutherford Space Department
17thC. former cloth merchant’s house, now a museum. Grade II listed

ST MARY’S SCHOOL CHAPEL,NEWBURY ST

Open: Sunday,3-5pm .Gothic styled chapel of recently closed St Mary’s girls school. The
chapel,1898/9,attributed to Ponting (1850-1932) is fancy styled Gothic with motifs of several
phases, with asymmetrical turret and spire and apse with wooden tierceron vault
