First Wantage Brownies
Link Romania Christmas Shoebox campaign
First Wantage Brownies have been involved with the Link Romania Christmas Shoebox campaign. They collected items for family shoeboxes to be distributed in Romania. John Willemsen, the local representative for Link Romania came to talk to the Brownies and answered the many questions they had for him.
Jane Pepler, leader of First Wantage Brownies said “This is a really worthwhile project for the Brownies to be involved in. It made them think of other people in very different circumstances to the lives that Brownies and their families in Wantage lead.”
Link Romania was established in 1991 in response to the devastating television pictures that came out of Romania of the appalling conditions in the orphanges in Romania. It is a Christian organisation founded to help the poorest and most marginalised of Romania’s people. Link Romania is dedicated to poverty alleviation and humanitarian aid and working with groups that are rejected by society in Eastern Europe.
The boxes from Wantage are scheduled for delivery around Romania during the first week of December.
Margaret Willemsen from Link Romania said: “We are sure that these boxes, seemingly a very small Christmas gift, will give much joy and pleasure to the poor and destitute people who will receive them, and for whom they contain otherwise unaffordable luxuries.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed.
“As we all look forward to our own Christmas celebrations, let us spare a thought for those who will be rejoicing over a shoebox.”
