Visitors to the town centre may have noticed a new fixture next to Wantage Civic Hall. A ByBox has been installed there by Vale of White Horse District Council to encourage shoppers to shop in the town centre.
ByBox are a local company, based at Grove Technology Park, who supply delivery lockers, made up of individual locked compartments. The Bybox locker at Wantage Civic Hall provides a convenient location for people to pick up goods that they have purchased online, and encourages them to visit the town centre at the same time. When an item is delivered to a ByBox locker, it is stored securely while a text message is sent to the recipient with a security code. With this code, the shopper can then open the locker and collect their parcel. It will cost residents only £2 to register with Bybox to use one of the lockers in the town forever more (this money is donated to charity). For more information on the Bybox lockers see http://my.bybox.com/
Residents who have used the Bybox lockers have said that they are very convenient and easy to use, and prevents those rather annoying “while you were out” cards. By signing up to use Bybox, you need never miss a delivery again!
Several ByBoxes have been installed across the district in recent months, and it is hoped they will encourage customers shop in town centres. A map of the town centre is clearly displayed on the side of the box, encouraging people to visit nearby shops and cafes, with some businesses offering vouchers for anyone using the service.
Cllr Elaine Ware, said: “Our town centres have been, and will continue to be, the real heart of the community and we are working together with the business community to come up innovative and exciting schemes like this one to encourage people to visit the area and make the most of the independent shops and cafes.”
These new installations will add to a nationwide network of over 500 locker locations ByBox already has in place.
