Event Details

Biscuits, jams, wooden goods, lavender bags for sale in support of Greenfields School in Thokoza, South Africa.

Judy Tren, who manages the relationship between the church and the school, raises money to provide the school children, in what is one of the poorest areas of South Africa, with warm winter clothing and daily school meals. Many of the children are orphaned and the school meal is the only proper nutrition they receive. While the Covid pandemic and its economic destruction has been devastating for everyone, it has hit these vulnerable communities the worst.

The Dickensian Evening is normally the biggest fundraising event of the year for the Thokoza School aid effort. In an attempt to raise funds and continue to support the school, Tren is making many items available for sale at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. These include the popular homemade shortbread biscuits in beautifully decorated tins, marmalade, jams, lavender bags, fudge, and Christmas gift labels. A variety of woollen goods will also be available for sale, including warm woolen hats and the unique knitted teddy bears dressed up as both boys and girls. Typically the Thokoza sale offers buyers the opportunity to get their Christmas gift buying done, while supporting an incredibly worthy cause.

The goods will be on sale at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul between 10am and 12pm Monday to Saturday, starting from November 23rd.  Please bring cash as the Church has no credit card facilities.
