The King’s Arms, Wantage

Re-opening on Thursday, 12th July – A Right Royal Treat

A gin and real ale pub in Wantage is the brainchild of Simon, Dave and Emma of OakTaverns Ltd who, following the success of their other 16 pubs in the pub group, have rejuvenated The King’s Arms so that customers can sit back and savour distilled gins andlocal real ales in casual opulence.

We have taken inspiration from the surroundings of a traditional pub but with a modern twist, the polished wooden flooring and panelling and moody lighting evoke feelings of relaxation, perfect for welcoming locals, visitors, gin and real ale lovers.

More than 20 gins will line the bar (to start with, this will no doubt grow), including Gin’erGin, a limited edition gin, famously created by Oak Taverns Ltd for The Queen Charlotte in commemoration of Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

6 real ale hand pumps show the commitment and huge focus on real ale, with tank beer coming soon, installed by local brewery XT based in Long Crendon, serving brewery fresh lager straight from the tanks.

Set in the historic town of Wantage, the birthplace of King Alfred, The King’s Arms is astunning listed building. Maintaining its historic frontage, the new owners have taken the signage back to its roots with traditional, gold leafed signage, but the fully refurbished interior has a more modern feel and a new lease of life has been breathed into the pub and it has been skilfully restored to its former glory. The huge garden has been revamped, with an impressive decking area, so visitors can bring their drinks outside, should they prefer, and enjoy the Great British summer!

“It’s a no gimmicks, traditional pub,” says Emma. “It’s all about lovely surroundings, getting together with friends and family – a good, old fashioned pub. We have taken out the Pool table, the TVs and the juke box, a catch up with friends kind of pub.”

COMING SOON: Wantage Micro Brewery called the Wantage Brewery in the outbuildings – watch this space.
