26th-28th September 2014
The “NOT THE WANTAGE BEER FESTIVAL” is so named because White Horse CAMRA have been unable to host the Wantage Beer Festival this year, thanks to the Beacon (aka The Civic Hall) refusing to allow them to have one.
The Beacon are however attempting to have one themselves where you will be able to buy such lovely beer as Marstons and Loose Cannon. So that we don’t interfere with their festival we shall have one of our own with at least 66 real ales the weekend before theirs. Sadly we will not be selling Marstons and Loose Cannon beers as that would clash with their plans but will have a range of beers from breweries near and far, many of whom are brewing a special beer for the event. It is unlikely that many of the beers will have been tasted by even the keenest beer aficionado!
The event takes place on three separate sites:
- A marquee erected at Challow Park Studios, OX12 9RH;
- The Royal Oak Inn, OX12 8DF;
- Shoulder of Mutton, OX12 8AX.
The Challow Park Studios site will have between 24 and 30 beers available, together with a hog-roast and snacks. A shuttle service will also be available between this site and the Shoulder of Mutton at a small cost. We are hoping that Shotgun Weather Ferret, a local ensemble, will be available to provide some musical entertainment. Craig at The Swan Inn in the Market Place has kindly loaned us the marquee for the occasion.
Paul Hexter and his wife Francesca at the Royal Oak will be host to no less than 22 beers and an amazing array of ciders.
The Shoulder of Mutton will have 12 beers on stillage in the Function Room and at least 10 beers available at the bar. Vegetarian snacks will also be available throughout the day.
There is no entry charge to the festival and beer prices will be kept to a minimum.
