Sport England Inspired Facilities – Refurb 2012
Grove Rugby Football Club has secured £32,951 Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund for its Refurb 2012 programme of improvements.
The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country. Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the Games.
Sport England’s Chair, Richard Lewis, said: “This National Lottery investment will create a lasting sporting legacy for the Wantage and Grove area. It shows we’re offering the legacy that people want for their local community. For hundreds of clubs and tens of thousands of people, 2012 will be the year their local sports facilities got better”.
With the funding the club will be able to relay the slabs around the building, replace the doors, guttering and windows, have the roof checked and complete work on the upgrade of showers with a new water supply.
Grove RFC is a Community Rugby Club run entirely by volunteers which has over 500 members from under 7 to senior citizens and which caters for over 200 boys and girls in their Mini and Junior sections.
The scheduled work will greatly enhance the property and stand the club in good stead to serve the local community for many more years to come when development in the area will hopefully enable them to take their sport to many more local people and open their facilities to increased numbers.
Club Chairman, Chris McCarthy, said “We are particularly delighted with this award in our own 40th Anniversary Year. This will provide much needed refurbishment works to our building and access routes to help take us through the next 40 years and on. As a club we try and support the community where we can include the recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations. As well as supporting the annual youth and senior football festivals we host a very popular Bonfire and Fireworks display for the whole community. Therefore it makes this award not just for the club but for the whole community to which we are very grateful for this support from Sport England.”
Mr Ed Vaizey, MP for Wantage and District said, ”I am delighted that Grove Rugby Club has secured this grant. Grove Rugby Club is at the heart of the community and does a huge amount. This money will make a real difference to its facilities.”
