25 Year Celebrations of the German Twinning Association
This year on Saturday 18th August (2018) the German Twin Town of Seesen in the Harz Mountains will be marking and celebrating the 25 years Twinning Association link with the people and community of Wantage, Grove and surrounding district.
The weekend celebrations in Seesen will be marked by a concert of classical music in St Andreas’ Church (Seesen Parish Church) by musicians from both Seesen and Wantage , Graham Blyth and Jim Mitchell from Wantage and Claudia Scharer from Seesen. Other Wantage groups , the Vale Islanders and Pandemonium, have also been invited to play a partduring the weekend.
To mark this special and historical occasion – the Wantage German Twinning Association is extending an open invitation to anyone or friend interested in Twinning and any past member or friend of any age, who has had links with Seesen…eg , groups such as the Scouts, Youth Groups, Sports Groups, Air Cadets etc or any others who would like to renew old friendships , to join them in this year’s visit. The formal occasion and the start of the celebrations willbe marked on Saturday 18th August by the Mayor of Seesen Erik Homann and the Chairman of the Seesen Twinning Group Rolf-Dieter Spötter with speeches and the singing of the German and British National Anthems .
The trip to Seesen is planned to travel by Barnes Coaches from Wantage – leaving on Thursday 16th August by Channel Ferry, with an overnight hotel stop in Belgium – arriving in Seesen on Friday evening 17th August.
Over the weekend there will be a special service in St Andreas Church and further musical celebrations. During the following few days there will be the opportunity to enjoy trips and visits to places of local interest arranged by our German hosts – leaving Seesen on Friday 24thAugust (again with an overnight hotel stop in Belgium and a sight-seeing visit to Bruges) – arriving back in Wantage early on Saturday evening 26th August. The total cost in the region of £500 – depending on numbers (including ferry and overnight hotel accommodation in Belgium on both the outward and homeward journeys and accommodation in Seesen)
