People working from home in Wantage, Grove and neighbouring villages have a new town centre hot-desking option from this month. The Mix community space on Mill Street, Wantage is launching a new hot-desking facility there.

It means people who normally work from home but would also like a town centre-based option can use the new facilities in The Mix. It’s available four days a week as a ‘hot-desk’ space on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. A keyless entry system provides access to The Mix for subscribers between the hours of 9am and 5pm on those hot-desking days.

Sustainable Wantage, the not-for-profit co-op which runs The Mix, has installed high desks, Wi-Fi and new comfortable seating space to complement the existing meeting table and chairs. There is also access to a separate meeting area, a fridge and kettle, and basic kitchen and toilet facilities, not to mention all of the local shops and amenities within easy reach.

Project co-ordinator, Hugh Shaffer, says: “I’m very excited about this new opportunity to serve professionals and home workers in the Vale of White Horse. As a freelance consultant, I understand the need to have a flexible town-centre facility where I can work and also have client meetings. The special introductory offer of £20 per month to the end of October is exceptional value for money, and I would invite anyone who is interested to contact me and arrange a viewing.”

Anyone who’d like to subscribe to the new hot-desking facility at The Mix can contact Hugh via hugh@quick-mail.freeserve.co.uk or call 01235 411313.

The Mix (see http://thewantagemix.wordpress.com/) opened following the refurbishment of an empty shop on Mill Street, with much of the work done by local volunteers. Earlier this year a crowdfunder campaign raised more than £3,200 to keep the facility open, thanks to pledges of between £5 and £250 from more than 30 individuals, plus contributions from local council funds.

As well as the hot-desking days, The Mix is available for local groups and organisations to hire for meetings, and host a range of skill share workshops, fund-raising activities and resource-saving initiatives.
