Our newly elected President is Paul Penfold, who came to live in Wantage four years ago, having spent most of his life in High Wycombe. Although quite new to the area, and indeed to Rotary, Paul was an active member of High Wycombe Round Table, having served as both Chairman and President. He therefore brings a wealth of experience of service clubs, and all that membership entails.
Paul worked in the construction industry for many years, primarily fulfilling sales and marketing roles, both as supplier and contractor. For the last ten years of his working life he was with a firm of commercial agents and surveyors, negotiating lettings, sales and acquisitions of properties for a variety of clients.
Paul’s aspirations for his Presidential year are to build on the excellent reputation of Rotary by increasing membership, and concentrating on local charity work, following these difficult times.
Paul is married, with three sons, and lives with his wife Barbara and dog Peggy. He plays a little golf (badly!) and is a keen cyclist.
He is pleased with his move to Wantage, and honoured to be chosen as President of the Rotary Club.
The recent period of lockdown has meant that Wantage Rotary Club has been unable to meet in person, although we have been holding regular Zoom meetings. Our fundraising activities have largely been put on hold. However, because we had reserve funds in our good works account, we have been able to support the Grove & Wantage Food Bank with donations totalling £1500, so will hopefully have helped many people who have perhaps been struggling during the prolonged and difficult first half of the year.
