I was sitting in my favourite chair this evening, when I started to hear wonderful Christmas music coming from outside. I popped my head out of the door – and there they were – the Wantage Silver Band in Haywards Close, playing traditional Christmas music and carrying out their Christmas door-to-door collection. Wonderful!
This year, their Christmas collection goes towards running the band and funding a public access Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) which will be mounted outside of their band hall in Tugwell Field (on the A417, just east of the Lord Nelson).
The Wantage Silver Band is a registered charity aiming to provide low-cost music making for all the community. They provide playing opportunities, tuition and loan of instruments to people of all ages and abilities. The have several bands at standards rating from beginners to their Championship band (65th in world brass band ranking!!). Wow!!
